Prof. Park - Tribute

The Laboratory of Food Biochemistry of the Food Science Department of FEA - UNICAMP was created by Professor Yong Kun Park, in 1974. Prof. Park was born in North Korea, completed his undergraduate and Master's degree in biochemistry at Seoul National University (UNS) in South Korea, and obtained a PhD in Food Science (1972) and a title of Associate Professor in Food Biochemistry (1976) at the School of Food Engineering - UNICAMP. He dedicated himself to scientific research, teaching, and supervising students. He was a specialist in food biochemistry, author of several articles in international journals, dedicated to the study of enzymes, the production of alternative sugars, and the biological properties of propolis. He supervised 27 master's and 22 doctoral students and most of them are now professors and researchers at Universities in Brazil or abroad, working in Food Biochemistry, Food Science, and other areas.

         Ao longo de sua carreira, o professor Park publicou 81 artigos em periódicos científicos, 6 livros, 9 capítulos de livros e apresentou 110 resumos em eventos nacionais e internacionais. Seu trabalho notável intitulado "Produção de isomaltulose por meio da transformação enzimática da sacarose, utilizando-se Erwinia sp D12 imobilizada em alginato de sódio" resultou no primeiro contrato de licenciamento de patentes pela Agência de Inovação da Unicamp (INOVA), formalizado em 2002. O professor Park Orientou 27 alunos de mestrado e 22 de doutorado e grande parte dos seus orientados são professores em Universidades do Brasil ou do Exterior, atuando em Ensino e Pesquisa em Bioquímica de Alimentos, Ciência de Alimentos, dentre outras Áreas.
